World Taekwondo hosts Continental Union Meeting

World Taekwondo (WT) hosted a high-level Continental Union (CU) Coordination Meeting to enhance governance and the standardization of CU election processes.

Post several months whereas World Taekwondo have made changes to all CU constitutions to ensure complete harmonization and alignments to WTs constitution.

SEOUL, Korea (Mar. 5, 2025) – World Taekwondo (WT) hosted a high-level Continental Union (CU) Coordination Meeting to enhance governance, standardize election processes, and reinforce integrity measures across its five Continental Unions.

The meeting brought together leaders from the African Taekwondo Union (AFTU), Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU), European Taekwondo Union (ETU), Oceania Taekwondo Union (OTU), and Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU) to review election rules, compliance requirements, and operational planning ahead of the upcoming election cycle.

During this meeting WT confirmed the official election month for each CU:

1. ETU & AFTU – April
2. OTU – May
3. PATU – June
4. ATU – July

Next Steps
To uphold best practices in governance, WT will continue hosting regular CU coordination meetings to facilitate smooth election procedures, reinforce integrity measures, and ensure alignment with global governance standards. Since this meeting and post WT recommending changes to OTU’s constitution OTU has held its e-vote and has now had the constitutional amendments approved via its extraordinary Council meeting and General Assembly with a majority voting in favour of the WT amendments.

OTU will now release the processes for its elections. To ensure transparency and consistency, WT emphasized the importance of compliance with standardized election procedures and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting each CU in conducting smooth and fair elections. As part of these integrity efforts, WT will assign official observers to monitor CU elections.
